Facebook’s new “meet up” feature looks a lot like the dating app Tinder.
The new beta was launched in Toronto and New Zealand and asks users if they would be interested in meeting a specific friend.
A keen observer in Toronto said on Motherboard that he received 15 notifications of friends wishing to meet him.
The user said that the notification took him to a display showing the friend and then giving him the option of “No Thanks,” with a disclaimer underneath saying that his response would be confidential unless both selected the “Yes” option.
In a similar manner to Tinder, if both parties were interested then they would be able to chat in Messenger.
It is not surprising that Facebook have join the dating scene after the success of Tinder and Bumble, both of which are hugely popular apps.
Facebook insists the service is not about dating.
“People often use Facebook to make plans with their friends,” a Facebook spokesperson told Motherboard. “So, we’re running a very small test in the Facebook app to make that easier.”
