Report: Amazon to start accepting Bitcoin

Amazon is about to announce it will soon start accepting Bitcoin, according to latest rumours.

The announcement is set to be made before the end of October and follows on from a similar claims made an investor in September.

The latest rumours come from German newspaper Die Welt, which cites fin-tech sources in Silicon Valley, that the online retail giant is about to add Bitcoin as a payment option.

The rumours echo claims made by invest James Altucher that Amazon may make the announcement in its October earnings report.

When Die Welt asked Amazon to comment on the rumours, a spokesperson replied to say they do not comment on speculation but that the company does “include new products or services only when these are useful for our customers.”

“Even if the Oct. 26 date is not set in stone, Bitcoin introduction should probably be expected soon,” Die Welt reported.

This isn’t the first time Amazon has been rumoured to start accepting Bitcoin and are a contributing factor to Bitcoin’s surge in price.

Earlier this month Bitcoin traded at over $6,000, an all time high.
