4-inch iPhone 6C rumours continue to gain steam

With the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Apple ditched the 4-inch handset display size (though it still sells the smaller iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C on its website).

One of the questions that remain about the company’s iPhone lineup for 2015 is whether the US company will re-introduce a new phone with a 4-inch screen, offering a cheaper and smaller alternative to its two main devices.

If reports out of China are to be believed, the answer is a ‘yes’. Apparently, supplier AU Optronics has secured a deal to manufacture 4-inch screens, though sources say it’s for a model expected in 2016 rather than one slated for this year.

iPhone 6c in the works

However, the report in the Economic Daily News also refers to an iPhone 7 and an iPhone 7c. If there is a 4-inch iPhone being readied, we’d expect it would go by the name of iPhone 6c.

In January this year, we were told not to expect a 4-inch iPhone anytime soon thanks to the amazing success of the newer, larger devices. But in April is sounded like a smaller device was back on the table, after AU Optronics was mentioned again in various online rumours.

Unless there is going to be something revealed on Monday at WWDC 2015, we will have to wait until the official announcement to see the size of 2015’s iPhones. Now that the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C are about 2 years old now, it seems probably that Apple will either release a new 4-inch device or drop the size completely.
