50 Cent ‘forgot’ about old Bitcoin investment — now it’s worth $8 million

US rapper 50 Cent has seen his gamble on Bitcoin pay off as it is now worth millions of dollars.

The performer whose real name is Curtis James Jackson III, claims that he had forgotten about his investment in cryptocurrency.

It was back in 2014 when 50 Cent let fans purchase his album Animal Ambition for just a fraction of a Bitcoin when the price was just $662 (THB20,000) and he made around 700 Bitcoins.

The volatile currency rose to around $19,000 in December but has since fallen back to $11,000 but even now the rapper’s investment is worth $8.5 million, TMZ reports.

50 Cent confirmed the profitable investment return on social media, tweeting: “Not bad for a kid from South Side, I’m so proud of me.”

He later added: “Ima keep it real, I forgot I did that s–t lol.”

50 Cent was forced to file for bankruptcy in 2015 after he was instructed by a court to pay $5 million for posting someone else’s sex tape online.

He is just one in a long list of people who have made their fortune from Bitcoin including Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, the American twins who became the first Bitcoin billionaires.

One of the biggest losers is Welsh IT technician James Howells, who accidentally threw away Bitcoin with an estimated value of $100 million.
