Uber is moving towards not needing drivers by testing a self driving car in the US city of Pittsburgh.
A Ford Fusion hybrid has been fitted with radars, laser scanners and high-resolution cameras to navigate streets without a driver, though there is a person behind the wheel during these test runs.
The ride-hailing app company says Pittsburgh – where it has a somewhat controversial partnership with Carnegie Mellon University – is ideal for testing self-driving cars due to its wide variety of weather and road types.
Uber joins Google, Tesla and several technology companies in the quest for a self-driving vehicle.
