The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has been named as the best smartphone of 2016.
The S7 Edge, which was first unveiled last February, was given the award at the Global Mobile Awards, which is part of the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona.
The S7 Edge received the award for its refined design, advanced camera and outstanding performance.
Samsung’s handset beat a host of other leading smartphones to the award, including iPhone 7 Plus, Huawei P9, Google Pixel XL and Motorola Moto Z.
“We are honored to be recognized for our craftsmanship in design and innovation with the Galaxy S7 edge,” said Junho Park, Vice President of Global Product Strategy, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.
“This award is a testament to our constant pursuit of excellence as we continue to exceed consumers’ expectations through revolutionary mobile technology.”
The S7 Edge was unveiled alongside the Galaxy S7 and was one of the first Samsung devices to include the firm’s improved dual pixel camera, which remains one of the best on the market today.
The announcement comes as Samsung said it will officially unveil the Samsung Galaxy S8 on March 29.
The Galaxy S8 will be the first major smartphone release since the battery burning scandal of the Galaxy Note 7.
While no official details regarding specifications of the Galaxy S8 have been revealed by Samsung, the device is expected to keep the ergonomic design of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
