The hacktivist group Anonymous have released a video declaring war on Islamic extremists and promised to take revenge for the recent attacks in Paris.
In the video, which was uploaded to the groups YouTube account, a masked representative from Anonymous speaks in French saying: “we are declaring war against you, the terrorists.”
The video, which is described as a “message for al-Qaeda, the Islamic State and other terrorists,” sees the representative claim the group will track down and close any online accounts linked to terrorist networks as revenge for the attack at the headquarters of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
The video also included the #OpCharlieHebdo hashtag which refers to Operation Charlie Hebdo.
Anonymous is made up of hackers and online activists from around the world has previously carried out cyber attacks which have brought down the websites of large organisations and even governments around the world.
The group claims to carry out the attacks in order to protect and defend democracy, however, it looks like the security forces may have found an unlikely ally in battle against terrorism.
