Apple’s new operating system, iOS 11 is now available to download for iPhones after the iPhone 5S, all iPad Air and iPad Pro models, iPad 5th generation, iPad mini 2 and later and iPod touch 6th generation.
The OS was unveiled alongside the iPhone X and iPhone 8 at an event in California last week and has now available for you to install.
So how do you install it on your device?
Firstly, you will receive a notification message informing you that the iOS is available for you to download – it won’t be made available to everyone at the same time.
The next important step BEFORE you begin the download is to ensure that you have at least 4GB of storage space – doing a backup beforehand is also wise but not essential. This is done from
Settings > iCloud > Backup, just make sure that you have turned on iCloud Backup. If you are connected to a WiFi network, select “Back Up Now”.
Try to get connected to best possible WiFi connection, ideally one that is fast and we also recommend leaving your phone plugged in, it can take a while to download and you don’t want the battery running out half way through the installation process.
The final stage is to actually download the update. Go to Settings > General > Software Update > Download and Install.
Once the process is complete you will receive a message telling you and you can then continue to use your device as normal.
