Asus officially launched its Zenfone 5 series at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week.
The new handsets are the latest installment of Asus’ ever popular Zenfone line, noted for its good quality Android handsets available at generally affordable prices.
At the event, Asus unveiled three new models – the ZenFone 5, 5Z and 5 Lite – all of which look strikingly similar to the iPhone X.
The Zenfone 5 and 5Z even have a notch at the top of the almost full screen display.
Better still, both handsets cost a fraction of the iPhone X and boast some pretty impressive specs.
The Zenfone 5 and 5Z include a 6.2 inch display and have the same reflective casing as found on the the Zenfone 4.
Both phones also include pretty capable cameras in the form of a 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor with f/1.8 aperture which should ensure good quality photos in low light conditions.
Alongside is a 120 degree wide angle lens that Asus says can fit twice as photo as a standard smartphone camera. There’s also a 8MP camera on the front.
Elsewhere Asus have also included ZenMoji, it’s answer to Apple’s Animoji, which tracks the movements on your face and transfers them into a character on screen.
A new feature called AI Charging helps to preserve your battery as the phone learns when you charge up your phone.
If you charge your phone overnight it will charge more slowly, but if you charge say early afternoon, fast charging will kick in to ensure you have enough power for when you use your phone the most.
The Zenfone 5 and 5Z also come with facial recognition and a fingerprint sensor which can be used to access the phone.
The Zenfone 5Z ships with the same Snapdragon 845 processor as found in the Samsung Galaxy S9 and it also comes with a whopping 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
The Zenfone 5 comes with 6GB RAM and a Snapdragon 636. Both have 3300mAh batteries.
Asus have released few details of when the new handsets will be available, other than saying in the third quarter of 2018.
The Zenfone 5Z will cost around 22,000 baht.
There’s no word yet on the pricing for the Zenfone by but expect it to be cheaper than the Zenfone 5.
