Bangkok Bank has joined with Smart Taxi to launch a programme that allows customers to pay for taxis using their smartphone and a QR code.
The bank says the programme will provide convenience and safety while “eliminating the burden of carrying cash and the time-consuming task of finding change”.
Participating taxi drivers will receive a free QR code and up to Bt500 bonus in cash, in a move aimed at further promoting a cashless society.
Bangkok Bank executive vice president Prassanee Ouiyamaphan said the partnership with Smart Taxi to roll out the programme represents the bank’s support for cashless payments.
“Payments can be performed quickly and safely, which resonates well with today’s consumers and their lifestyles. The service is available from today onwards, with over 1,000 taxis in the Smart Taxi network and 5,000 taxis by the end of this year,” Prassanee said.
Taxi drivers in the Smart Taxi network who participate in this programmr and receive any payment of Bt50 and above via the QR code are eligible for a Bt10 bonus per trip, with a maximum bonus of Bt500 per driver throughout the programme.
