The days of the budget smartphone being nothing more than some kind of byword for poor build quality, lousy performance, laughable screen resolution and an even worse camera are long gone.
While the newest flagship models are getting more expensive, there are still lots of good smartphones available at much more affordable prices.
In fact, there has probably never been a better time to buy a so called ‘budget’ phone.
Even some of the innovative technology such as dual cameras and to a lesser extent fingerprint scanners are increasingly being featured in smartphones at the lower end of the market, which is great news for consumers.
In no particular, order here’s a rundown of some of the best budget smartphones available in Thailand.

Moto C & Moto C Plus
For Android purists, the range of Motorola smartphone available in Thailand just now are excellent. What stands them apart is that they have excellent battery life and run stock Android.
At the lower end are the Moto C and Moto C Plus. The Moto C is available for Bt 3,290 and includes 5 inch display, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 5MP camera and a 2,350mAh. Not specs to set the world alight but a very affordable option for someone looking for a basic smartphone.
The Moto C Plus is a bit more interesting. Price at only Bt 4,290, it include a 5 inch display, quad core processor, 2GB RAM, 8MP camera and a huge 4,000mAh battery.
Moto E4 and E4 Plus
The next options up from the C series, the Moto E4 and E4 Plus have all the specs the casual smartphone user would need. The 5 inch E4 only includes 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. But the 8MP rear camera and 5MP front facing camera are both reasonable. The 2,800mAh battery will also be enough to accommodate that 5 inch display. Bt 4,990.
The E4 Plus on the other hand is a much better option for only 1,000 baht more. It includes a 5.5 inch display, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front facing camera and a whopping 5,000mAh battery. At Bt 5,990, the E4 Plus is probably the best value phone in Thailand at this price point.
Moto G5 Plus
The Moto G5 Plus is the best value smartphone available in Thailand right now.
It includes a 5.2 inch full HD display, with a Snapdragon 625 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, expandable to 256GB via MicroSD, 12MP and 5MP cameras, and 3,000mAh battery. Bt 9,990.
The most affordable Nokia smartphone on sale in Thailand right now is the Nokia 3, with its 5 inch display, 2GB RAM, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 256GB via MicroSD, 8MP front and rear facing cameras and 2,630mAh. Bt 4,850.
A nice balanced entry level Android phone, the Nokia 5 includes 5.2 inch display, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 256GB via MicroSD, a 13MP rear facing camera and an 8MP front facing camera. The 3,000mAh battery should offer enough power to get you through a full day. Bt 6,490
The Nokia 6 is probably the best option of the new Nokia handsets. It’s still affordable yet includes some good features and has a premium feel and design.
5.5 inch display, Snapdragon 430 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, 16MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, 3,000mAh battery. Micro SD. Bt 7,990.
Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro
You can’t include a list of budget smartphones in Thailand without featuring Samsung. Typically Samsung offer variety of phones at the lower to mid-range market. One of the newest models, and perhaps most interesting is the Galaxy J5 Pro.
The J5 Pro includes a 5.2 inch Super AMOLED display and is powered by the Exynos 7870 Octa core chipset. Its 13 MP front and rear facing cameras are among the best in this price range. Bt 9,990.
Samsung Galaxy J7 Core
The 5.5 inch J7 Core also includes a Super AMOLED display and is powered by the same Exynos 7870 chip as the J5 Pro. However, it only includes 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 256GB with a MicroSD card. The cameras are also not quite as good as the J5 Pro, with a 13MP rear facing and 5MP front facing camera. The 3,000mAh battery should offer good performance. Bt 7,290.
The Oppo A77 is one of the few phones in this price range to come with 4GB and 64GB of internal storage. A phone for selfie lovers, the A77 includes a 16MP front facing camera and a 13MP rear facing camera. The 5.5 inch LCD display is housed in a stylish metal body. The 3,200mAh battery should also offer decent battery life. Bt 9,990
Asus Zenfone 4 Max Pro
The Asus Zenfone series is synonymous with good value and on paper at least, there is a lot to like about the Zenfone 4 Max Pro. The phone includes a 5.5 inch full HD display, Snapdragon 430 processor with 3GB RAM and it’s one of the few phones to offer a dual camera at less than Bt 10,000. There’s also a huge 5,000mAh battery which you’d also struggle to beat at this price. Bt 7,990.
Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie
Following on from the Zenfone 4 Max is the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie which includes a 20MP front facing dual camera that is capable of taking wide angle shots. There’s also a 16MP rear facing camera which will also take excellent photos. Zenfone 4 selfie includes a 5.5 inch display, 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 2TB! Great value at Bt 8,990.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4
The new Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is a lot of phone for just Bt 6,790. The newcomer from China includes a 5.5 inch display, Snapdragon 625 processor, with 4GB RAM and 13MP rear facing camera. There’s also a 4,100mAh. A solid option for anyone looking for a new Android smartphone.
The new Huawei GR5 includes a 5.5 inch display with a 12MP dual camera, 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage for Bt 7,900. There is also a premium model 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage for Bt 9,900
Vivo V5 Lite
The V5 Lite comes with a 5.5 inch HD display, Octa core processor and 3GB RAM. It has a 16MP primary camera and dual SIM slots. Bt 6,990.
The more powerful Vivo V5s is a significant upgrade from the V5 Lite, with its 20MP camera, 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It also includes 3,000mAh battery and a 5,5 inch display. Bt 9,990
Lenovo K6 Note
Another one for the Android purists, the Lenovo K6 Note runs near stock Android and includes a 5.5 inch display, Snapdragon 430 processor and 4GB RAM. It has a 16MP camera and 3,500mAh. Bt 8,990.
Sony Xperia XA1
With its 23MP rear facing camera, the 5 inch Sony Xperia XA1 is a good option for anyone who takes lots of photos. There’s also 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 256GB via MicroSD. On the downside, there’s only a fairly small battery at 2,300mAh. Bt 8,490
Sony Xperia X
If you’re serious about taking photos but want a smartphone with a little more power than the the Xperia XA1, it’s bigger brother the Xperia X could be worth considering. It includes the same 23MP camera, as well as a 13MP front facing camera. It also has a speedy Snapdragon 650 processor, with 3GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. Bt 9,900.
