Activision and their now famous and well-tread formula The Call of Duty Series will release their latest incarnation to the series later this year.
The next game will be another part of their Black Ops sub-series. Call of Duty Black Ops 4 will be the next entry into the multi-award winning series of games.
As of now, details about the new game are few and far between as Activision remains tight-lipped about what might be featured and what to expect this time.
Games writer Marcus Sellers recently tweeted about the upcoming release and Eurogamer reported they have received information from various sources confirming that Black Ops 4 will indeed be this year’s Call of Duty game.
Development of the game will again be done by Treyarch who was responsible for the development of the previously very successful Black Ops games.
Some of the reports have suggested that the sci-fi elements which were prevalent in the futuristic Infinite Warfare in 2016 have been toned down due to the mixed reception of that game.
It is little surprise that another Black ops game in on the horizon. The series has outperformed and become the most popular version of the recurring Call of Duty series, a majority of Treyarch’s development output over the last eight has been spent on Black Ops games.
The timing of the release is also a factor; the previous game Black Ops 3 was released in 2015, Activision moved to a three-year cycle for development of their Call of Duty games rotating releases between, Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Sledgehammer so a release in autumn 2018 makes perfect sense.
Activision traditionally announces new Call of Duty games in the late spring, so an official announcement is still some time away yet. The company will soon be reporting on their earnings for the final quarter of 2017. We will inform of any further updates then.
