Verizon FiOS is offering a new custom TV plan to all new and existing customers. The plans will be offered starting this Sunday and will allow customers to choose channels that they want instead of the company’s standard 300 channels that are offered.
Unfortunately, many cord cutters are still not excited about the offering.
While “custom,” the packages offered still starts out with a pre-selected lineup of channels. The first package is $55 a month and there are further packages offering phone and Internet in a bundled option. There will be 35-plus basic channels plus 2 genre-based bundles, such as sports or news channels.
If customers want more channels, they can order extra channel packs for $10 each, with a total of 7 channel packs currently available. The one nice thing about the custom option is that consumers are not locked into a 12-month contract and will instead pay on a month-by-month basis.
While a step in the right direction for the company, it is still a steep entry cost for users that may not want to watch the 35-plus channels already included in the service. Consumers have already starting commenting on the service, saying that they want to choose their channels – not choose bundled channels.
