In India, KFC is giving customers portions of its famous finger lickin’ chicken in boxes that include a built in smartphone charger.
The fast food chain has launched the limited “Watt-A-Box” in restaurant chains in Mumbai and Delhi.
The company says Watt-A-Box helps to add “an element of utility” to its otherwise simple food packaging.
The majority of the boxes are available as part of an online contest, although some are being handed out to lucky customers in stores.
Speaking to the Times of India, Lluis Ruiz Ribot, chief marketing officer at KFC India explained the idea behind the Watt-A-Box promotion: “We launched the 5-in-1 Meal Box in March this year with the objective of providing an abundant complete meal and at an affordable price for our customers. With the launch of Watt a Box, we have gone a step ahead and also introduced an element of utility into the box. Each one of us spends a considerable time on our smartphones daily, and the phone battery going dead is almost like a nightmare! No longer is that the case, with the Watt a Box around”.
With 220 million users, India is the world’s second largest smartphone market and with network providers offering both affordable data packages and handsets, Indian’s are spending an increasing amount of time on their phones.
According to a study in 2015, Indian’s spend on average around 169 minutes per day on their smartphones.
