The tablet market has suffered in the past year, what with sales slowing for all manufacturers as consumers opt instead for super-sized “phablet” smartphones with screens of 5 inches and up. However, that’s not stopping Samsung from refreshing its existing tablet lineup at Mobile World Congress next month, starting with the Galaxy Tab S2.
Galaxy Tab S2 will be thinner than iPad Air 2
The iPad Air 2 is one of the thinnest tablets on the market right now, at just 6.1 mm – that’s even thinner than the iPhone. But Samsung’s next tablet is slated to be even thinner.
SamMobile claims that the South Korea company isn’t simply preparing new smartphones to launch next month, but tablets as well with two new Galaxy Tab S models in the works. The Tab S2 lineup will apparently feature a more premium look and feel, reflecting the rumoured design changes to the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge – i.e. lots of aluminium and less plastic.
Galaxy Tab S2 Specifications
Unfortunately, few specifications are revealed by SamMobile’s anonymous sources, but the Galaxy Tab S2 is said to be available in two different sizes with a square aspect ratio in either 8 inches or 9.7 inches. It’s not certain whether even larger models will also be introduced – as the trend in tablets lately has been getting smaller which could be why no 10.5 inch model was mentioned (previous Galaxy Tab S models were available in both 8.4 inch and 10.5 inch sizes).
It’s likely that both tablets will have extremely high resolution displays and the latest CPU such as the company’s own Exynos 7 chip (or possibly a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810), but how can the devices stand out from the crowd, where every tablet pretty much looks the same? Perhaps a screen with curved sides like the Note Edge and upcoming Galaxy S6 Edge…?
All will be revealed at Mobile World Congress 2015
Samsung will hold its Unpacked media event on the first of March at the start of Mobile World Congress 2015, where it’s expected to reveal both sizes of the Galaxy Tab S2 and new Galaxy S6 models. Let’s just hope that everything runs Android 5.0 Lollipop!
