The music video for Psy’s Gangnam Style has proved to be so popular that it has broken YouTube view counter.
YouTube has said that the song, which was released in 2012 by K-pop sensation Psy and which was made famous largely for its comical dance routine and music video reached the maximum number of views that its counter had imagined was ever possible.
YouTube shows the that the official video that accompanies the song has been watched more than 2.15 billion times which is equivalent to one third of the world’s population.
However, the success of the video caused a problem for YouTube as the site’s view counter had only been setup to be able to show a maximum view count of 2,147,483,647.
To prevent this happening again, developers at YouTube have upgraded the view counter from a 32 bit to a 64 bit integer, this means that videos can now go beyond a total of 9,223,372,036,854,775,808 views!
Which incase you were wondering is: nine quintillion, two hundred and twenty-three quadrillion, three hundred and seventy-two trillion, thirty-six billion, eight hundred and fifty-four million, seven hundred and seventy-five thousand, eight hundred and eight.
The second most watched YouTube video is Justin Beiber’s Baby, but this falls some billion views short of Gangnam Style.
