Most of us probably thought that the days of the flip phone were a thing of the past but demand in the China, India and indeed other Asian markets appears to be as strong as ever.
It appears that the new release by Chinese manufacturer Gionee, the W909 flip phone has some pretty impressive hardware inside its clamshell that may give some of the larger competitors some food for thought.
The device has two, yes two 4.2 inch 720 pixel LCD displays and is powered by an octa-core Media Tek Helio P10 SoC. It comes complete with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage that can be increased with the use of a MicroSD card.
The cameras are also pretty impressive. The rear or main camera boasts 16 megapixels whilst the front facing, “selfie” camera offers a not to be sneezed at 5 megapixels.
You will find a USB Type-C port on the bottom of the device, a 2,530mAh battery and a fingerprint reader on the back.
The drawback is that the device on runs Android 5.1 Lollipop rather than Marshmallow.
It is fair to say that it is a pretty impressive smartphone although it may not have made it into the top-tier in every department when compared with Samsung and Apple’s flagship phones it still offers some impressive hardware.
The W909 has a faux leather back and slim bezels to try and make it more appealing.
The device will initially be launched in China but is likely to follow in other Asian countries shortly after.
