Google Maps has been given a major new look, making it not only easier on the eyes but easier to use than ever before.
The latest update sees Google make a number of changes including the removal of some of the unhelpful details which help to make important landmarks and traffic stand out, making navigation easier than ever.
The new cleaner look is available to users of Google Maps on desktop, Android and iOS and was announced in a blog post earlier this week.
“As part of this update, we’ve removed elements that aren’t absolutely required (like road outlines).
“The result is a cleaner look that makes it easier to see helpful and actionable information like traffic and transit.
“And we’ve improved the typography of street names, points of interest, transit stations, and more to make them more distinguishable from other things on the map, helping you navigate the world with fewer distractions.”
Even the colour scheme and fonts used on Google Maps have been updated, which while only a subtle change, it means that many natural landmarks and other points of interest are now easier to distinguish.
Also included in the update is a new “areas of interest” feature which highlights places with activities or things to do.
The new areas of interest feature is the result of Google study reams of data from cities across the world to see which neighborhood had the the highest concentration of bars, restaurants and shops.
Highlighted with an oranges shade on the map, users can zoom in on an area of interest to see more information about a particular place or venue.
The updated version of Google Maps is available to download now on iOS and Android.
