Google Photos will soon use AI to bring your old photos back to life

Google has announced a new colourizing tool that will be added to Google Photos that will help transform your old family photos

Powered by AI smart functionality, this new update that left many in astonishment when it was announced at Google I/O 2018 will soon be able to apply realistic-looking colour to black-and-white pictures.

The standout feature of the upcoming update is the ability to take an old black and white photo and colourise it.

Once you have taken a photo of an old black and white photo the AI developed by Google will analyse the image and allow you to tap a button to it.

All sounds easy enough and during the on-stage demonstration at Google I/O it appeared impressive, however, as with all new features and updates we will reserve final judgement until we have tested it ourselves.

Other additions to Google Photos include being able to suggest quick edits on pictures, such as increasing exposure, a rotation and even enhance the foreground image by turning the background black and white.

Documents will now be recognised by the app allowing you to convert photographs into PDFs that appear as regular scans.

No official date has been announced for the launch of these features, as soon as we know, you will know.
