Google Street View adds new Thai locations
The official launch of the Maps, conducted with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports was held yesterday at Ta Maharaj Community Mall, with the aim to help independent tourists, which accounts for two thirds of the total number of tourists last year, or 18 million out of the 24.7 million.
The project, going by the name “Online Maps of Thailand by MOTS” complies with the government’s Digital Economy policy by using an on-line technology to help promote 12 chosen cities from 12 provinces in the five regions of the country as must-go destinations according to the Ministry’s 2015 Discover Thainess campaign.
The Online Maps not only provides 360-degree panoramic view of destinations, but also information about 383 sites and 1,348 hotels in 12 provinces.
According to the Department of Tourism, the 12 provinces included in the project are:
3. Samut Songkram
9. Nakon Sri Tamarat
Tourism and Sports Minister, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul has said that currently the information about tourist spots and hotels in 77 provinces is being updated and expected to be completed by July this year.
The locations of 100 distinctive restaurants in each province are also expected to be added, Kobkarn said.
