Here’s how to play YouTube in the background from your smartphone or tablet

If you have ever tried to listen to music on YouTube from your smartphone, you will know the app has to remain open in order for you to listen uninterrupted.

If you close the app or lock your smartphone the music will stop, which is pretty annoying and a massive drain on your battery.

However, there is a way you can listen music on YouTube in the background while you continue doing other stuff on your iOS and Android device.

According to The Verge there are a couple of ways to do this, depending on your operating system.

For Android users, open up Google Chrome and go to

Then tap on the three dots in the top right of the screen.

From the drop down list tap on “Request desktop site”.

Next, click on a playlist or song and select play.

If you receive a message on screen saying YouTube wants to send you notification, accept it.

You should then be able to exit the Chrome app and resume playback of your chosen song from the notification menu, The Verge reports.

The method is a little different for iPhone and iPad users but works just as good.

First of all you will need to download the Dolphin web browser from the App Store.

Once downloaded, open in the Dolphin app.

Select a video and press play.

Exit the app and you will be able to resume the video you selected from the iOS Control Center.
