Pokemon Go may have been a big hit this year but it has been beaten to top spot for the most downloaded iOS apps of 2016.
Thanks largely to significant updates and changes during the course of the year, Snapchat has moved up from fifth place last year to take the top spot, Apple has revealed.
In November, Snapchat released Spectacles, glasses that are capable of recording images from the first-person perspective and then can be uploaded to your phone.
The clips that can be anywhere up to ten seconds long can now include 3D stickers along with other filters to heighten their impact.
It should be remembered however that this result only charts the number of downloads rather than the number of monthly users with Facebook still leading the way by some margin with 1.8 billion monthly users.
Pokémon Go made third place in the chart, proving more popular than Tinder and having almost as many active users as Twitter within the first few days of its release.
For those interested in the top paid apps for iPhone, Heads Up remained in top spot following on from last year’s success, Face Swap Live came second, and Minecraft: Pocket Edition fell one place but still came in a respectable third.
