The HTC One M9 is due to be released next week at Mobile World Congress 2015, but until then we’ll just have to make do with some unofficial leaked pictures and specifications.
Before the Android smartphone’s release next week, sources say it will look very similar to the HTC One M8 but come with a decent specification upgrade. The HTC One M9 is supposedly powered by the latest 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor running at 2 GHz, similar to the LG G Flex 2.
It also supposedly comes with a decent 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage as well as microSD card support up to 128 GB.
20 megapixel camera
Aside from the lightning fast CPU, the most enticing details in the latest leaks suggest the HTC One M9’s rear camera is a 20 megapixel model with optical image stabilisation.
Unfortunately, the downside to having such a capable camera on the back, is that the camera does in fact look like it sticks out from the back of the phone’s case, pretty much the same as on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. It’s top centred placement and square frame though might make it a bit less wobbly when sat on a table than the iPhone. As most people keep their phones in a case, this isn’t likely to matter anyway.
HTC One M9 design changes
The premium appearance of the new HTC One M9 seems to have been carried over from the old model, with a variety of colour options of gold with silver, and a nearly black gunmetal grey option, according to the latest photos.
The new model is also said to be slightly thicker than before at 9.61 mm, but this will allow a large 2,900 mAh battery – in comparison, the HTC One M8’s battery capacity was 2,600 mAh. We can also expect the same screen resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 (in other words, full HD). As well as having Android 5.0 Lollipop pre-installed, the HTC One M9 will receive an upgrade to the company’s bespoke Sense 7 user interface.
We’ll know officially next week at Mobile World Congress whether M9’s specs are more than just rumours…
