Apple has been widely tipped to launch three new handsets later this year.
While none of the devices have been officially confirmed it is widely believed that the Cupertino firm will launch two updated versions of the iPhone 7, as well as a premium smartphone dubbed the ‘iPhone 8’, to mark the 10th anniversary of the iPhone.
However, Apple fans eagerly anticipating the launch of the iPhone 8 could be in for some bad news.
According to analysts at Deutsche Bank, the is no chance of the iPhone 8 being released before 2018.
The delay is said to be due to technical issues and shortages of hardware in Apple’s supply chain.
“Report suggests no new iPhone 8 this calendar year,” read a research report picked up by Business Insider.
“As we have written in previous [notes], several supply chain reports have suggested that key component shortages and technical challenges could delay the release of a high-end iPhone 8 device this fall.
“We believe this report further underscores the uncertainty around the timing of Apple’s next- generation iPhone model.”
Meanwhile, a note issued to investors on Wednesday from Wall Street firm Cowen and Company also warned at a likely delay in the release of the iPhone 8.
Cowen said that Apple’s partners are having problems fitting the fingerprint reader in the new glass panel that will make up the entire front of the iPhone 8.
“Fingerprint yield issues remain unresolved (integrating the fingerprint under glass creates a much higher yield hurdle because the entire display must be scrapped rather than just the fingerprint module),” Cowen said.
“While still possible, Apple will have to put the fingerprint on the back [of the phone.]It appears likely that Apple will slightly delay contract manufacturing assembly timelines by 4-6 weeks to buy more time to fix the issues and make a final decision.”
Nothing about the iPhone 8 has been confirmed yet, but there is already a huge buzz surrounding the device, which is expected to include an infinity screen, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8.
