The latest addition to Garmin’s Fenix 5 series of workout trackers is a high-end GPS multi-sport watch in three variations.
The series is designed for use in a wide variety of sport activities, covering guide maps with directions for running or cycling and packing a battery that will last 24 hours. The quick-fit watchband is changed easily.
The 47mm Fenix 5 is the basic model, while the 42mm Fenix 5S fits smaller wrists and the 51mm Fenix 5x has a multiple-function menu covering more activities.
“Health and sports gadgets continue to gain popularity in Thailand,” says Kraipop Laung-uthai of GDS Group. “Outdoor programmes such as marathons, cycling, triathlons and trail-racing are becoming popular. Last year Garmin’s sales in Thailand grew by 99 per cent, better than expected, since we offer more than 20 different product categories for beginners on up to professionals.”
The Fenix 5 series come with training software for running, cycling, swimming, triathlons, skiing, hiking, climbing, paddling, fitness and golf. You get detailed graphs via the Garmin Connect app, a heart-rate monitor measuring from the wrist and advanced guidance on how to get more out of your workout.
Updated reports show body status and readiness, such as oxygen use during workout, proper rest time after exercising and levels of lactic acid and stress.
Notifications in Thai include call, message and email alerts once you’re connected to a smartphone (both iOS and Android are supported). Activity tracking includes counting steps, measuring sleep quality, and vibrating alerts and a red beam display when you’ve idled for too long.
The prices range from Bt23,500 to Bt27,900.
