Flip phones. Remember them? Well, it looks like they could be making a return.
Whilst many of us have been looking forward to the release of LG’s new flagship device, the LG G Flex 2, since its launch at CES 2015, LG has also been busy releasing a range of flip phones, something which you probably thought were a thing of the past.
On Wednesday, LG launched its new Ice Cream Smart flip phone at an event in Korea.
The Ice Cream Smart looks every bit like the phones that were popular about a decade ago. However, according to the Korean company, this latest offering combines the design of a typical flip phone with the technology and usability of a modern smartphone.
Spec wise, the Ice Cream Smart has a 3.5 inch 480×320 display, a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, with 1 GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which can be expanded to 32GB via microSD. It has an 8MP rear camera and a VGA front facing camera.
The Ice Cream Smart runs LG’s offering the Android KitKat 4.4 OS, which includes a button for launching KakaoTalk messaging app, which is hugely popular in South Korea.
Back in September 2014, launched another flip phone, LG Wine Smart, an entry level device which was targeted at elderly or handicapped users.
As with the LG Wine Smart, it is likely the LG Ice Cream Smart will only be available in Korea but if you are really desperate to get your hands on one you could always check out eBay.
Do you think the flip phone will make return?
Is there really a market for this kind of phone amongst the like of the iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Nexus 6 or eagerly anticipated LG G Flex 2?
