Microsoft Outlook users report problems sending email after installing iOS 11 update


The new iOS 11 update is said to be blocking Microsoft email accounts from sending messages if you use the standard default app. The problem is the same for both iPhone and iPad users.

On the previous version of iOS, emails from, Office365 and Exchange 2016 were all sent perfectly fine. However, on the new version released this week, emails fail to send.

Users trying to use a Microsoft email account on Mail have been with met with the message: “Cannot Send Mail. The message was rejected by the server.”

Microsoft have explained that the new version of iOS is presently incompatible with Windows servers and that both Apple and Microsoft are looking to rectify the problem.

Microsoft advised users to download Microsoft Outlook from the App Store as this app is known to work.

“Apple is working closely with Microsoft to resolve the issue and will release a fix soon in an upcoming software update,” Apple’s support page said.

As with all updates to iOS, there can be some compatibility issues with some apps.

However, the good news is that there have been far fewer problems with the latest version compared to the iOS10 update which caused “bricking” issues on some iPhones – making them practically unusable.

It is possible to check if an app works on iOS11 by going to Settings. The update has left iPhones such as the iPhone 5C and 32 bit apps incompatible.

The new OS was unveiled on September 19, just a week after the launch of the iPhone X and iPhone 8. The system includes a number of new features including phone-to-phone Apple Pay and a smarter Siri.
