MoneyGuru has launched what it is calling Thailand’s first true online comparison website for comparing products and services from the financial sector.
The company, which is a subsidiary of CompareGlobalGroup, a London based global investment firm, has stemmed from similar sites such as MoneySupermarket, CompareTheMarket and uSwitch, all of which have helped to revolutionise the way in which financial products are purchased in the UK.
Currently, online financial services in Thailand only account for approximately 10% of the market, compared to almost 70% in the UK.
However, as the number of internet users in Thailand is estimated at around 24 million and with a huge increase in the number of people using the web, it is expected that financial services offered by conventional brokers will steadily decrease as people will move to using sites such as MoneyGuru or other online platforms.
Launched on Wednesday, MoneyGuru will initially provide online comparisons for car insurance and credit cards in Thailand.
MoneyGuru, which belongs to the CompareAsiaGroup has its regional headquarters in the Philippines and already offers comparison websites in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Indonesia.
According to MoneyGuru’s managing director, Katherine Aphaivongs, the site will expand into offering personal insurance accident and travel insurance coverage within the next 12 months.
