MWC 2017: All you need to know about this year’s Mobile World Congress

Pretty much the biggest event in the smartphone calendar, Mobile World Congress 2017 kicks off in Barcelona on Sunday.

It is an event when most of the top tech brands launch their products with LG, Sony, BlackBerry, Samsung and Huawei all expected to launch their flagship devices for 2017. Even Nokia is predicted to re-release an old favourite.

Here we look at what the top brands have on offer this year:

Product being launched: Galaxy Tab S3

Sadly, the Korean Giant won’t be launching the S8 or indeed any other smartphone at MWC, this will be happening at a standalone event next month, but the Galaxy Tab S3 should get pulses racing.

It will come with a 9.7-inch display accompanied by a stylus pencil to help users make notes.

It will feature the new Android 7.0 and will have a Snapdragon’s powerful 820 processor, alongside 4GB of RAM. There’s also 32 GB of internal storage and a 12MP rear camera and 4.7MP front lens.

A photo of the device was leaked by tech tipster Evan Blass earlier this week.

Product being launched: Nokia P1 and 3310

The Finnish company have been making some big noises prior to MWC 2017 and the event is expected to see the launch of the flagship P1 device although it is the relaunch of the 3310 that seems to be stealing most of the headlines.

Product being launched: BlackBerry Mercury

Another brand making their comeback is BlackBerry who are famed for their keyboard smartphones.

The new device will be developed by Chinese firm TCL and combines a detailed display with a classic QWERTY keyboard that even doubles as a touchscreen extension.

Sony Xperia XZ

Sony Xperia XZ

Product being launched: Xperia XZ Premium

Sony are rumoured to be launching as many as 5 devices at this year’s event including mid-range Xperia X and XA models.

The Japanese tech firm may also launch a new premium device called the XZ Premium which is tipped to include a groundbreaking 4K display, alongside an upgraded camera capable of 1,000 fps and upgraded processor, making it the highest quality smartphone to date.

Product being launched: LG G6

This year’s release is not predicted to be as exciting as last year’s G5 but it is still an impressive device. It will be made from glass and metal and feature a dual-lens camera on the rear on the device.

Other features are set to include an impressive 5.7-inch QHD display and rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Product being launched: Huawei P10

The Huawei P10 will be another device to have the Android 7.0 Nougat OS as well as having plenty of power and design upgrades. A P10 Plus device is also expected to be launch at MWC 2017.

Huawei is expected to follow on from the hugely successful Huawei P9, which was one of the first smartphones to bring dual camera technology on smartphones to the mainstream
