Lenovo owned Motorola has announced an all new Moto G series.
The new line up includes the Moto G4, the Moto G4 Plus along with the Moto G4 Play and continues in Motorola’s tradition of offering good spec phones at reasonable prices.
At an event held in New Delhi earlier this week, Lenovo was quick to talk up the Moto G4 Plus model, waxing lyrical about the quality of the camera and the front facing finger scanner and the affordability of all three handsets.
The budget phones are surely likely to appeal to the users who have lower budgets with all of the phones offering some level of appeal.
The screen specs for the Moto G4 and the Moto G4 plus are the same with a 5.5 inch, full HD display with Moto G4 Play offering a 5 inch, 720 megapixel display.
The G4 and the G4 Plus are both powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processors, have 5 megapixel, front facing “selfie” cameras and a 3,000mAh battery.
The Moto G4 has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage and a 13 megapixel rear facing, main camera.
The Moto G4 Plus is certainly superior with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, the previously mentioned front facing fingerprint scanner and a 16 megapixel rear facing camera. The camera also has superior features in terms of a f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and “big pixels”.
The G4 Plus’ camera is the main selling point for Motorola and it was heavily emphasised at the event in New Delhi.
Independent tests have already rated the Moto G Plus’ photo quality as higher than that of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. It should be noted that this score on relates to the photo quality and not the camera overall.
The Moto G4 Play is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor with the front facing camera being of a lower spec than the larger siblings.
The battery is still reasonable at 2,800mAh and the Play has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The Moto G4 Play runs the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system.
The devices are not available in Thailand as yet but they are expected to be on sale here later this year, where they are expected to retail from THB5,000 for the G4 Play and THB10,000 for the G4 Plus.
Releasing a series of ‘budget flagships’ – well spec’d devices available at an affordable price – which will not only appeal to users in emerging markets but which are also likely to be of interest to price conscious users in developed markets could be a masterstroke by Lenovo.
We’ll keep you updated on the expected release of the new Moto G series in Thailand.
