A new version of WhatsApp will be available soon that will allow businesses to chat directly to consumers.
Known as WhatsApp Business, the new version of the app is designed as a way to monetise the app which was accquired by Facebook for $19 billion in 2014.
It is thought that the new app will make it easier for businesses to contact existing customers and potential customers who already use the messaging service for chatting with friends.
The advantage for WhatsApp is that they will be able to charge for this opportunity.
“We want to put a basic foundation in place to allow people to message businesses and for them to get the responses that they want,” WhatsApp COO Matt Idema told Fox earlier this year.
“We do intend on charging businesses in the future.”
It is thought that there will only be a couple of minor changes from the existing version of the app.
It is our understanding that landlines will also be available for the first time and that the app can be used as a chat tool via a business’s website.
It will still be a standalone app so this will allow users to differentiate between personal and business conversations.
Businesses will also be able to customise their profile so they could include their website, opening times and other contact details. Automated responses will also be available if messages are sent out of regular business hours.
The app has over one billion daily users worldwide, making it the most popular messaging platform in the world.
