WhatsApp have revealed that a new location sharing feature will be added to its popular messaging app.
The feature will allow iOS and Android users to share their location with one another, the company said in a blog post.
Like its messages, the location sharing feature will be protected by end to end encryption so hackers or authorities can not intercept the data.
The ‘Live Location’ feature could be used to let someone know where you are.
“Whether you’re meeting up with friends, letting loved ones know you’re safe, or sharing your commute, Live Location is a simple and secure way to let people know where you are,” WhatsApp said.
WhatsApp didn’t specify a launch date for the new feature, apart from saying it will be rolled out to users “in the coming weeks.”
How to share your location on WhatsApp
- Open a chat with a contact or a group
- Tap on the attach button and select ‘Location’
- The new option, ‘Share Live Location’ and tap it
- State the length of time you want your location to be shared
- Tap send
- A map of your location will then appear in a message to the receiver
