New Windows 10 update sends some PCs into ‘blue screen of death’ loop

A mandatory security patch released by Microsoft on Tuesday is causing chaos for some Windows 10 users.

Users reported the update caused their computers to crash and display the dreaded blue screen of death on an endless loop each time they try to reboot their PC.

After installing security update KB4041676, users took to Microsoft’s support forum to report the issues.

The two main problems users are encountering is the blue screen of death loop or the computer becoming unresponsive with a black screen displayed which then initiates a system shutdown.

A statement released by Microsoft read:

“Microsoft is aware of a publishing issue with the October 10, 2017, monthly security updates for Windows 10

“Customers that download updates directly from Windows Update (Home and consumer devices) or Windows Update for Business are not impacted.

“We have corrected the publishing issue and have validated the cumulative security updates.

“We recommend all customers take these cumulative security updates.”

UPDATE – Microsoft confirmed the issue has now been fixed and only a small number of users were affected.
