Nike’s self lacing sneakers might be the most pointless thing ever

We all love it when things we remember from classic movies become reality.

Now Nike has released a pair of self lacing trainers similar to those seen in the Back to the Future movies.

The new trainers, called HyperAdapt 1.0 are a self-lacing sports shoes that users simply have to put their foot inside and the trainer automatically tightens the laces without the need for a knot.

Following on from the Back to the Future theme they even have LED lights in the heel and a warning light when the batteries are running low.

“When you step in, your heel will hit a sensor and the system will automatically tighten,” explains Tiffany Beers, Senior Innovator, NIKE, Inc., and the project’s technical lead.

“Then there are two buttons on the side to tighten and loosen. You can adjust it until it’s perfect.”

Nike claim that this is not a gimmick and the shoes are ‘tailored-to-the-moment’ with the shoe sensing what the foot needs at that particular moment in time.

This includes the tightening or loosening of the laces whilst athletes are actually performing.

The shoes will be launched in the US on November 28 but there is no news at present on if and when they will be released on the rest of the world or for that matter how much they will cost.
