The OnePlus X smartphone is now available to buy for anyone who wants it.
The Android smartphone, widely regarded as one of the best budget smartphones available, had previously only been available via One Plus’ invite only sales policy.
In a blog post on Thursday, the company said: “As we continue to move our business forward, we will never stop looking for exciting new ways to reinvent ourselves. That’s why we’re excited to announce that as of today the OnePlus X is completely invite-free.”
Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has gained a dedicated following across Asia and Europe thanks to its generally affordable, yet high spec and high quality smartphones.
Whilst its phones are often well received, the company’s invite only sales has been generally maligned by many users who have not been able to get their hands on a OnePlus device.
Denying that it is nothing more than a gimmick, the company has previously defended the invite only policy by saying it helps keep a balance between supply and demand, keeping costs down which can then be passed onto the consumer.
The release of the OnePlus X on open sale marks the quickest time for a OnePlus device to become available without an invite. Its original phone, the OnePlus One wasn’t available on open sale until almost a year after its launch, whilst the OnePlus 2 took almost five months until is what available invite free and now the OnePlus X has reached the same status just three months after its launch.
The OnePlus X includes a 2.3GHz Qualcomm quad core Snapdragon processor, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, which can be extended by 128GB via MicroSD.
The screen boasts a 5 inch Full HD OLED display, with a 13 megapixel camera on the rear, in addition to the 8 megapixel front facing camera.
The OnePlus X runs the neat, stripped down Oxygen OS, which is based on Android 5.1.1.
Whilst some people in Thailand had managed to get hold off a OnePlus device previously, they would have needed to purchase it from somewhere like China or Malaysia, or via third party companies who then ordered the device themselves from OnePlus before forwarding them on to customers.
With OnePlus making the OnePlus X available on general sale, users in Thailand should now be able to order direct from the OnePlus website.
