Oppo launches two new super-thin smartphones

Chinese manufacturer Oppo is well known in Thailand and right across Asia for producing great Android phones with super-thin designs, without breaking the budget.

Now the company has announced to new mid-tier smartphones, the 5-inch R7 and the 6-inch R7 Plus, which are going on sale in China this week, with the international rollout next month. That means we can probably also expect them in Thailand in the very near future.

Oppo R7 and R7 Plus launches

Both the devices are powered by a Qualcomm 615 chip with a 64-bit octa-core processor and a generous 3 GB of RAM, but with only 16 GB of storage on the R7 but a more reasonable 32 GB on the Plus. Both have 13 Megapixel cameras, though the Plus has a twin-LED flash and a more sensitive sensor.

The R7 measures 143 x 71 x 6.3mm and weighs 147g, while the Plus is 158 x 82 x 7.75mm and weighs 203 grammes. Oppo has included onscreen buttons on the R7 Plus, shaving off millimeters off the bottom bezel.

Both devices will run Android 5.1 Lollipop, but the company’s own ColorOS skin is also being used. The R7 Plus has nearly an edge-to-edge display but the smaller one has fairly think bezels, strangely. The Chinese price is around $400 for the R7 model and $480 for the R7 Plus, which is considered a fairly high price for a company that hasn’t had much success out of China yet, though that could all be about to change.
