Oppo Mirror 5 smartphone launches in Asia this month

Chinese company Oppo launched the mid-range Mirror 3 smartphone in January this year, and you’d think the company wouldn’t release a new model for some time. But just 5 months later and the company has already started work on the Mirror 5.

Oppo Mirror 5 leaks

The Mirror 5 phone has a distinct look with a mirrored rear, that gives a classy look without being too flashy. The back also features a diamond pattern.

The phone doesn’t have as powerful specs as the R7 and R7 Plus phones, which were announced last month, but the Mirror 5 does have a rear camera that uses Oppo’s Pure Image 2.0+. According to the Chinese company, it also adds a variety of new features, such as auto panorama, double exposure, and “after focus” which lets you focus on other subjects even after you’ve taken a picture.

Besides the new camera software, Oppo’s new phone will also have a 5 megapixel front camera. But powering the phone is an unknown CPU and 2 GB of RAM. The Mirror 3 didn’t have the most powerful hardware, so we expect the same will be true of the Mirror 5, but it should be enough for all but the most power-hungry users.

The phone will also have 16 GB of internal storage, but is likely to have a MicroSD card slot to expand the memory, and it will also run Android Lollipop – good news for anyone that wants to run the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system.

Oppo is said to launch the Mirror 5 in 20 countries by the end of this month and start of July, which is also likely to include Thailand. There will be 3G and 4G versions of the phone, and Taiwan will receive it first. Unfortunately for anyone outside of Asia, they’re unlikely to see the new phone anytime soon.

The Mirror 3 is already available in Thailand, for around 8,000 baht.
