The Oukitel smartphone has a battery that lasts a week

Hands up if you’re one of those people that would gladly trade in some of the lightness and thinness of your smartphone in return for a dollop of extra battery life? With the recent trend towards ever thinner and lighter devices, it seems that our phones can barely make it through the day without needing a recharge.

Oukitel is a Chinese company that is said to be working on a new smartphone that has a huge 10,000 mAh battery. That means you should be able to last a whole week without a recharge with this monster.

The leaked picture below is all that we can go on for now, but in the title of the leaked image was the term “Android 5.1”, so it seems that Google’s most recent mobile OS will be included.

From the pictures, it seems that the new Oukitel device is a work on progress and there has not been official confirmation yet from the company. But it would be great for many people to have the option of a more bulky, longer-lasting device.

The chunky slab of a phone reminds me slightly of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active, but from the pics it’s almost impossible to make out any features. Chinese companies such as ZTE have recently been toying with bulkier batteries.

If the phone does exist however, it’s unlikely ever to be released outside of Asia, but if it sells in big enough quantities then at least some of the larger companies like Samsung, Google and Apple may take notice.
