Overwatch update adds Thailand inspired map

Blizzard the developer of the very popular OVERWATCH game has announced it has released a Thailand Map and new skins to coincide with the Year of The Dog for the Chinese New Year.

A new capture the flag map to celebrate the four-week Lunar New Event is set in Thailand.

Jeff Kaplan, Overwatch director said that the new Ayutthaya map is the highlight of the event, he explained, “The biggest and best part of the Year of the Dog celebration, in my opinion, is a brand new map that we’ll be bringing you,” further adding “This map takes place in Thailand [and]is absolutely gorgeous. One side of the map is ancient and shows a temple that’s very, very gorgeous and the other side is bright and beautiful and very modern.”

The Capture the Rooster event has returned and now includes a sudden death element to avoid any drawn games.

“If two teams are tied at the end of time, what will happen is, both teams’ flags are moved closer to the centre of the map, and then the map resumes at that point. The teams will go for the flag and then they only have a very short distance to cap.”

Kaplan explained about other new features including certain moves will be restricted and when picking up the flag this will now become instant. Teams will now drop the flag if any moves of invulnerability or increased mobility are used.

If players can achieve a final result within the top 500 a special player icon and spray will be unlocked and anybody who places will receive a spray also.

A whole host of new cosmetic items are available in this new release.

Mercy and Genji will be getting new skins as part of the event, Kaplan Confirmed. Finally, Kaplan gave a little teaser video for one of Overwatch’s characters and a quick peek at the seasonal items which are available to unlock.
