It seems that it even Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg can find the internet intrusive at times.
A photo of Zuckerberg has revealed that he puts tape over the webcam on his laptop as well as the microphone jack –something that is usually done to stop any potential snooping hackers.
The revelation came when Zuckerberg post a picture online of him celebrating Instagram having 500 million users but eagle-eyed watches quickly noticed that the MacBook had been modified using tape.
The idea is not something new with James Comey, the director of the FBI also using tape to thwart prying eyes. It is believed that hackers are capable of taking control of a laptop and watching users via their webcam and potentially using their findings for blackmail purposes.
Back in April Comey gave a speech saying “I put a piece of tape – I have obviously a laptop, personal laptop – I put a piece of tape over the camera. Because I saw somebody smarter than I am had a piece of tape over their camera.”
Zuckerberg is reported worth an estimated $35.7 billion which makes him the fourth richest person in the world so it is quite understandable that he places a high emphasis on security.
Indeed a team of 16 people are tasked with protecting him and this has cost Facebook $16 million over the past five years.
Earlier this year he was picture jogging in Berlin with bodyguards in tow and his home in Palo Alto California is understood to be fitted with panic alarms and other security devices to ensure both his and his family’s protection.
