Last week we mentioned that Pebble was about to reveal an update to its smart watch lineup with a thinner design, colour E-Ink display and a revamped operating system. Today, the new Pebble Time smart watch has been revealed, and it very closely matches the device we described.
Pebble Time smart watch is thinner, with colour display
The Pebble Time is being funded by Kickstarter, the same way that the original Pebble Watch was funded, and as of the time of writing, they’ve already raised more than $4.2 million with almost 21,000 backers. The goal stated on Kickstarter was just $500,000 so they’ve raised nearly nine times that amount in just a few hours, even though they actually have another 31 days left.
As we already mentioned, the watch will be thinner than the current generation, and has a battery life of up to one week. On the inside, the next Pebble is reportedly going to have a Cortex M4 processor and a 6-axis gyroscope. Unlike the Apple Watch, the new Pebble won’t have a touch screen, and the resolution is no doubt on the low side compared to the Apple Watch. However, the upside as already stated is the stellar battery life, which will surely delight those users who complain that a smart watch is great except for having to charge it every day.
Judging by the video on Kickstarter.com, the new Pebble Watch looks pretty great, and they’ve come up with a new timeline display feature that shows you past, present and future events at the touch of a button. The company also says that this will also be coming to the regular Pebble Watch and Pebble Watch steel soon.
If you would like to get one of the first Pebble Time watches, you can back the company on Kickstarter. The estimated delivery date is May 2015, and the company states that the project is almost complete (unlike the first version which took much longer from funding to public release).
