Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 will boost photo quality and battery life

Qualcomm has a new chip for smartphones called the Snapdragon 820, which is said to power the new Huawei-made 5.7-inch Nexus phone later in the year. It will also come with a brand new Adreno 530 GPU, says Qualcomm, giving better battery life when watching movies and playing games. It will also offer much-improved image processing for photos…

Qualcomm 820 improvements

“Our Adreno 5xx-class GPU, brings an entirely new level of imaging to smartphones, and is designed to allow Snapdragon-powered devices to capture ultra-clear, vivid photos and videos regardless of motion and lighting conditions and display them with the color accuracy that nature intended”, said a Qualcomm spokesperson.

The Snapdragon 820 is also said to be used in the forthcoming ASUS PadFone S2.

The company’s announcement did though bolster the doubt that the chip will be used in the new Nexus, as Qualcomm originally said the Snapdragon won’t be available until 2016, and the latest press release also repeated this fact. Nevertheless, the new chip will no doubt bring the next level of performance to next year’s flagship devices.

New smartphones and tablets based on the 820 are expected to be available in the first half of next year.
