Samsung Galaxy S9 specs leaked – new features revealed

An image of the proposed packaging for the Samsung Galaxy S9 has appeared on Reddit, which claims to reveal the specifications of Samsung’s new flagship smartphone.

As with all rumours, the legitimacy has yet to be confirmed but it does appear to emanate from someone who has gained access to the early packaging.

The leak suggests that the device will come with a 5.8-inch Infinity Display with quad HD+ resolution which puts an end to hopes of a 4K resolution mobile appearing anytime soon.

In addition the camera will not be a dual-camera, but instead it seems it will be a dual-pixel rear-facing camera, with another 12-megapixel sensor included.

The front camera will be an 8MP affair and the device is said to be IP68 water and dust-resistance and have 64GB onboard storage will all be included.

It will also have 4GB of RAM as standard and will support wireless charging. This is hardly earth-shattering but the device will include an iris scanner although it is unclear whether it will include 3D face scanning similar to that found on the iPhone X.

The packaging does appear to suggest that it won’t be included with the South Korean giant settling for just an Iris scanner.

“Super Slow-mo” is expected to be included being the first of it kind to include this beating the Sony Xperia Premium’s 960fps limit. The S9 will also include stereo speakers that have been tuned by AKG and the device will also have an FM radio chip.

Samsung has said that it “is unable to comment on rumours and speculation.” Not hugely surprising. But it does seem that this particular image leak has decent credibility.

The device is expected to be launched at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.
