Samsung has slashed the price of the Galaxy Note 5, its flagship device from the end of 2015, along with some of its other popular handsets as part of a new promotion in Thailand.
The price reduction follows the release in March of the new Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge and comes amid rumours that the Korean tech giant will launch the Galaxy Note 6 later this year.
As part of Samsung’s Summer Promotion, the price of the Galaxy Note 5 has been reduced by 3,000 baht from 25,900 THB to 22,900 THB for the 32GB version.
The Galaxy Note 5, which was launched in Thailand in August 2015, includes a 5.7 inch AMOLED display with 1440 x 2560 pixels at 515ppi. It is powered by a 64 bit Exynos 7420 octa core processor with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
It also includes an excellent 16MP rear facing camera with optical image stabilization, LED flash and autofocus, as well as a 5MP front facing camera.
The Galaxy Note 5 is 4G ready, comes with a 3,000mAh battery and now runs Android Marshmallow.
The price reduction is the biggest hint yet that Samsung will shortly be releasing a new Galaxy Note, with this promotion a likely sign that the company is eager to shift existing stocks prior to the arrival of the new device.
The new Galaxy Note 6 is rumoured to include a 5.8 inch quad HD display, the same camera as in the Galaxy S7, with either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage alongside a whopping 6GB of RAM.
With that being said, the Galaxy Note 5 is a little over 8 months old but is still an excellent device and at 22,900 THB represents pretty good value if you’re in the market for a smartphone which still just about holds its own against some of the newer flagships.
As well as the Galaxy Note 5, Samsung has reduced the price of a number of its other devices.
Perhaps most notably on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, which has been reduced to 20,900 THB for the 32GB version and which is a reduction of 7,000 Baht from the price when it launched in April 2015.
The S6 Edge includes 5.10 inch display, 16MP rear facing and 5MP front facing camera, with 32GB of internal storage, 3GB of RAM and is powered by a 1.5GHz octa core processor.
Another device popular in Thailand and which is also included in the promotion is the Samsung Galaxy A5, a mid range smartphone which was only launched in February 2016.
The Galaxy A5 includes full super AMOLED display, with a 1.6GHz octa core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 128GB via micro SD. The Galaxy A5 was also the first Samsung smartphone to include a metal frame.
It is currently on sale in Thailand for 11,900 THB, having been reduced from 13,900 THB.
Other devices to be reduced in price is the Galaxy J7, which is now available for 8,100 THB, along with the entry level Galaxy Tab 3 which has been reduced by 500 THB to 4,490 THB.
