Samsung announced details of a new security protected USB storage device which is capable of storing 1 terabyte of data despite being no bigger than a business card.
The Samsung T1 comes with its own built security software which supports AES 256 bit data encryption.
Unlike a regular portable HDD, the T1 does not include any moving parts so there is no risk of the device being damaged internally and data being lost should it ever fall victim to general wear and tear.
It is also able to withstand extreme temperatures thanks to Samsung’s Dynamic Thermal Guard and is shock resistant up to 1500G/0.5ms.
As well as being pretty durable, the Samsung T1 is lightning quick, capable of of read/write speeds of 450MB/second, the company claims.
At that rate, it’s about seven times faster than a regular external HDD, meaning it would take approximately 8 seconds to transfer a 3GB movie file.
It measures 71.0 x 9.2 x 53.2 mm and weighs just 30 grams.
The Samung T1, which was showcased at CES 2015, will launch globally next month and is expected to be available in Thailand later this year.
The T1 is available in either 250GB, 500GB or 1TB and is compatible with both Windows and Mac machines without needing to reformat.
