Samsung to compensate anyone who ordered a Galaxy Note 7 in Thailand

Thai Samsung Electronics has offered compensation to anyone who pre-ordered and paid a deposit for the now discontinued Galaxy Note 7 smartphone.

On Wednesday afternoon, the company officially confirmed that it would be offering customers a goodwill gift and discounts on other Samsung devices.

Samsung has said that any customers who pre-ordered a Galaxy Note 7 in Thailand will receive a 10,000 baht discount voucher for either the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge or the Galaxy Note 5.

Customers will also be given a pair of Samsung Level Active headphones worth 2,990 baht for free.

The news comes after Samsung announced on Tuesday that it was halting production of the Galaxy Note 7 due to safety concerns following reports of devices catching fire.

Samsung had previously said that the initial problem with its faulty smartphone catching fire had been rectified.

However, just days later, multiple reports surfaced of replacement Note 7 handsets also catching fire.

The problems surrounding the Galaxy Note 7, which Samsung had previously described as its best ever handset, has resulted in more than $19 billion being wiped off its share value.
