Slidejoy has snagged $1.2 million in outside investment to continue developing its app that lets Android users rent their lock screens to advertisers. What Slidejoy does is turn the user’s lock screen into a newsfeed with promotions. Users are rewarded each month for renting their screen space.
Slidejoy has been out for a little over a year now, and it’s been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times. Once installed, the app will display a news story, deal or an ad each time you check your phone. If the ad doesn’t interest you, slide to the right to ignore the card. You can slide up to see an additional card, or slide left to get more information on the displayed card.
While the company isn’t the first to introduce this concept, they do use a different business model. Rather than paying users for impressions or clicks, which can easily be abused, Slidejoy pays users a flat fee each month regardless of how many promotions they click. By paying a flat fee, Slidejoy says it ensures users are rewarded and advertisers receive quality leads. This way, advertisers are still hitting their Key Performance Indicator goals.
Currently, Slidejoy users can earn up to $6 per month through the app, depending on how many advertisers are working with the company.
