Sony unveils world’s fastest SD card

With the need for speed always being prevalent in daily life, Sony has developed a new SD card that has the fastest write speed in the world and capable of coping with the demands and rigors of all the latest cameras and other devices.

The SD cards will be the SF-G Series of UHS-II SD cards and have a staggering write speed of 299 MB/s and a read speed of 300 MB/s. They will be available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB varieties.

“As the continuous shooting of higher-resolution images and adoption of 4K video with DSLR and mirrorless cameras increases, the inherent need for larger, faster and more dependable cards becomes apparent,” said Takayuki Takemura, Deputy Director of Recording Media and Energy Division at Sony South East Asia.

Any camera that is compatible with UHS-II technology will now be able offer continuous shooting and reduced buffer clearing time all because of the SD cards. The cards will also be water resistant and have anti-static capabilities.

A new card reader, the MRW-S1 with UHS-II support will enable users to transfer files to computer at a faster rate over USB 3.1.

The new SF-G Series SD card will be available from April, although Thailand pricing is yet to be confirmed.
