The Fall Creators Update is about to be released by Microsoft but the US tech giant is warning users about another upgrade.
The company is urging all users to make sure that they are using the latest version of Windows 10 as they have now ceased support for the original version.
This means that anyone who is still using Windows 10 version 1511 will no longer receive important performance and security updates, which could leave their devices vulnerable to malware and viruses.
Not everyone will know which version of Windows they are running. To check you should go to the task bar and type ‘winver’ and press enter. If it shows that you are using Windows 10 version 1511 you need to upgrade immediately.
So how do you update your device? The best bet is to go to the Windows Security page and then select ‘Verify’. This should mean that you receive the update manually. However, if this does not
work check the following:
– Are you connected to the internet?
– Do you have enough drive space to accommodate the update?
– If you are satisfied that you have both of the above, try Troubleshooter
– If you are running Windows 10 Enterprise or it is managed by a professional – contact the administrator and ask them to update your system
If you do continue to use version 1511, your computer will still work but you won’t receive the necessary security updates which will leave your computer vulnerable to viruses and malware.
Microsoft strongly recommends that all users ensure that they are using the latest version of Windows and regularly update to the latest version. Complimentary assistance is offered by Microsoft if you are experiencing any problems.
