If you thought there was already no hope for humanity, you might want to look away now.
A video of a man with a silly moustache dressed in a leopard print shirt singing about pens, pineapples and apples to an annoying beat has captured the imaginations of netizens the world over.
And if you haven’t heard the song yet, you soon will!
The song named Pen Pineapple Apple Pen, or PPAP, by DJ Kosaka Daimaou as sung by the fictional character Piko-Taro has already generated more than 17 million views on YouTube, for reasons that largely remain unknown.
When the video was post on the 9GAG Facebook page it received more than 65 million views and was shared more than one million times.
Some will point what has been described as an “insanely catchy tune” or comedy dance routine, while others say they just can’t get those lyrics out of their head.
The lyrics, by the way, go something like this:
“I have a pen. I have an apple. Apple-pen!
I have a pen. I have [a]pineapple. Pineapple-pen!
Apple-pen. Pineapple-pen. Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen.”
The song, which has been described by the BBC as “viral history in the making” has already spurned thousands of covers and is being tipped to be the next Gangnam Style.
And of course, lots of Thai social media personalities have go in the act and performed their own unique covers of PPAP.
A video of the song by Thai social media star Happy Polla has been viewed 13 million times.
As you can see from the video of Pen Pineapple Apple Pen and some of the covers of the song (we use that term loosely), the world has officially gone mad.
